‘Me Time’ for mums - what would 5 mins a day do for you?

There is a voice screaming in your head saying - can I just have 5 mins to myself please?

As a working mum and a FIFO mum we know the importance of making time each day to focus just on “ME”. It is important not only for our own mental health but also the overall wellbeing of our families.

We know if we don’t get that important Me Time we:

  • Snap at the kids
  • Don't Sleep well
  • Feel depressed
  • Life just feels hard

Yet on the other hand when we do get that ME Time life looks a little different, we:

  • Enjoy being around the kids
  • Happy wife, happy life
  • Get stuff done
  • Have more energy

ME Time looks different to everyone.  It doesn't have to be complicated or cost a lot of money.

It can be simple things like:

  • Waking 30 mins earlier than the family and enjoying a coffee or cuppa in peace
  • Running a hot bath at the end of the day
  • Meditating
  • Standing bare feet in the lush grass or sand (Grounding)
  • Going for a walk

It can also involve spoiling ourselves and making ourselves feel special with

  • Getting our nails done
  • Having a facial or massage
  • Day at a day spa
  • Lunch with girlfriends
  • Mumcaction (Girls weekend)

As mums we feel so much guilt over making time for ourselves.  We shouldn’t. We spend so much time and energy worrying about everyone else and making sure everyone is happy we forget about ourselves. It’s time to change this way of thinking and embrace the Me Time Movement.
